Online Cheriyal Traditional Mask with Sai Kiran
This workshop is now over, you can buy recordings.
This was a 3 day workshop of two hours each - children above 6 could join.
Sai will guide you on how to create the basic drawing and the other intricacies of Cheriyal Mask Art.
Make eco-friendly masks that can be added as a pop decor in your home or add them to your garden accessories. Cheriyal masks are an alternative representation of Cheriyal scroll paintings. They were used to depict life sized characters who appeared in the tales of Telangana’s wandering storytellers narrating local folklores.
In this workshop we will be working on two masks while diving deep into the working of traditional mask making techniques using eco-friendly material. We will be making the masks using the shells provided with sawdust and tamarind seed powder paste.
After the cast is dried out we will add the face features using sculpting techniques and our hands, next we move on to smoothening the surface with chalk powder after which the cotton cloth is applied which gives us a blank slate to apply colors. The mask when dried out is now ready to be filled with bright and vivid colors made by the artist himself. These colors are made from natural pigments, stones and herbs which do justice to our natural mask making process.
