About the Artwork +

Jayesh Sharma portrays a tribute to the sacred journey of devotion known in the enchanting world of Pichwai art. At the heart of this resplendent Pichwai painting stands Lord Shrinathji, the beloved deity of grace and devotion, as envisioned by the talented artist Jayesh Sharma. Shrinathji, with his divine blue complexion, is the central figure of this captivating composition. His presence radiates with celestial light, and his eyes, filled with compassion and love, capture the essence of his divine grace. The painting itself narrates the spiritual pilgrimage, a journey that encompasses the holy land of Braj, where Lord Krishna performed his childhood exploits. The sacred path is symbolized by intricate motifs, landscapes, and shrines that form a radiant backdrop around Shrinathji. Jayesh Sharma's meticulous craftsmanship brings the landscape to life, with every element of the pilgrimage route rendered with exquisite detail. The vibrant colours of the painting create a joyful contrast to the serene countenance of Shrinathji. The Pichwai painting is a visual celebration of devotion and the spiritual journey that has been undertaken for centuries by devotees seeking to connect with the divine in the land of Braj. The intricate details, vivid colours, and the presence of Shrinathji at its centre make this artwork a testimony to the enduring bond between the devotee and the divine. The artwoek is an invitation to embark on a spiritual journey, to relive the sacred pilgrimage through the eyes of devotion, and to experience the grace and divinity of Shrinathji as the ultimate guide on this path of love and devotion.

Jayesh Sharma blue-tick

Jayesh Sharma ji, who resides in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, has been a Pichwai artist for more than 38 years, and his family has been practising this art for 400 years as well, with 9 generations of his family being Pichwai painters and linked with the temple in Nathdwara. He is currently teaching his children to carry on the family legacy. He enjoys experimenting with his paintings while keeping the beliefs and tale untouched. He considers his profession to be a commitment and as a responsibility towards soceity. One of his favourite themes is the Annakut festivities. His grandfather's Gangaramji Sharma's art was on exhibit at Mumbai's Bhuleshwar temple. His paintings can be seen in the Shrinathji temple in Nathdwara and Udaipur, the Badrinath temple in Manasa, Madhya Pradesh, the Dakor temple in Gujarat, and the Bada Mandir Haveli in Mumbai. Indra Daman Goswami ji has awarded him a Prasashti Patra for his services to the Lord's Wall at Nathdwara. He clearly embodies the adage, "Allow your passion to become your mission, and it will one day become your vocation."

Pichwai Art

The art of Pichwai originated over 400 years ago, illustrating tales of Shrinathji, an incarnation of Krishna, the deity manifest as a seven-year-old child. Prominent in th Nathadwara region of Rajasthan especially in the Vaishnavite sect, the paintings are hand-painted on cloth or paper and depict different scenes and stills - lotuses, Radha, Gopis and cows are also frequent subjects. What started as a religious practice, is an art today and finds place in the form of paintings and wall hangings in homes of many art connoisseurs.
