Ashok Kumar paints Buddha in meditation in this Tikuli art. Buddha was one of the popular religious teachers of ancient India and is known for his message of peace and control of mind which will lead one to the salvation from the Cycle of Life. Artist

Tikuli

Tikuli, an unusual art style, is said to be over 800 years old. Tikuli originated in Patna, Bihar. Hand painting in this manner entails moulding glass into sheets and adorning and creating on them. The upper class is reported to have embellished them with gold and diamonds as a status signal. This artform is now done on hardboard plates and involves 15 phases, although it is still practised by individuals like the Santhal tribe of Bihar and volumes of Hindi literature.
