ONLINE SOHRAI WORKSHOP WITH RUKMANI DEVI

 The workshop is now complete and you can buy the recording for this workshop.

This workshop was done in 1 class of 2 hours and will be conducted over Zoom  - adults or children above 12 years can join.  

Rukmani Devi ji will guide you on how to create the basic drawing and the other intricacies of Sohrai art and the process of using the local soil from the region along with a comb to create this beautiful artwork. 

Materials that we will be sending for this workshop:

  • Soil- black and white soil from the region specially used to make Sohrai paintings
  • Brush
  • Handmade Paper
  • Comb required for the workshop - will be used for spreading the soil on the painting
  • Camel Glue

Materials you will need to keep ready at your end:

  • Paper to practise sketching
  • Water and palette for mixing
  • Pencil and rubber for sketching

About the artist: Rukmani Devi is a Prajapati artist is the pottery making clan who continues the distinctive traditions of Prajapati Khovar painting learnt from her mother and mother-in-law. A distinctive stylist, Rukmani is particularly known for her luminous tree of life paintings and murals. She was one of the four tribal women artists selected from Tribal Women Artists’ Cooperative to visit Australia for a month at the invitation of the Australian Museum to display her talents in a working exhibition at the Djamu Gallery, Sydney in creating several large murals on board of 6’x12feet size and permanent ground alpana, which works have been stored in the collection of the Australian Museum, Sydney, while her “Tree of Life With Mandala” is exhibited in the Central Foyer of the Brisbane art Gallery in Queensland, Australia.
