Materials that will be sent by us:

  • Cotton stole (approx. 90 cm by 20 cm)
  • Spare cloth on which we will practice the pattern
  • Thread multicolour 19 pieces
  • Needle - 5

About the artist: Our Soof artist Dayaben Bi Dohat is a National award winning artist from village Tharad Shivner Society in Gujarat. She learned Soof embroidery from her mother when she was 10 years old. Soof work is done from the back of the cloth and it does not have any print or any drawing and the artists count each and every thread during the embroidery process. Earlier they used to do this for their own homes only. Daya ben tells us that this art of Soof has come from Pakistan and so has her family in 1971. Their art is over 400-500 years old and is also called Sindhi Kadhaai and used to be given as dowry for daughters weddings but now for the last 50 years their art is also sold in many markets like Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Puna in India and also internationally in countries like Bangkok. She has also travelled internationally to England, France, Srilanka to promote Soof art and has also conducted many workshops in design schools like Nift and also taught many other artisans (more than 300).

We hope you can join us to support the arts and artists.
