About the Workshop +

This workshop is now over, you can buy recordings

This was a  5 classes of 2 hours each and was conducted over Zoom - only for adults. We would be learning to make Kalamkari in a traditional style with authentic materials supplied by the artist in 5 workshops of 2 hours each.  - adults can join (not suitable for children)

There are many steps and nuances involved in preparing a kalamkari in the traditional way. We require a processed cloth, traditionally prepared paints and brushes, which cannot be found in the local markets.
Processing the cloth is a detailed process, which would be difficult to follow at our homes. Therefore, we will be sending the cloth processed by the artist himself.

During the course of the workshop, we will learn how to use the traditional kalamkari paints and bamboo brushes. We will learn how the colorful and bright kalamkari paintings are made by using the basic primary shades.
We will begin by learning how to draw our goddess Sarasvati, and then proceed to highlight and fill in the colours.

A master craftsman and an award-winning artist, is noted for his exquisite method of hand-painting onto fabric. UNESCO-CCI awarded Siva Reddy the Seal of Excellence in 2004 for his artwork ‘Tree of Life.’ In 2007, he was included into the Limca Book of Records for artwork featuring 1926 Mahabharata and Ramayana characters.
He built a Kalakshetram Kalamkari art center to pass forth knowledge and the legacy of Kalamkari art to the young generation. His creations were displayed around the country at Hastha Kala fairs and artisan bazaars.
