Through a series of nested frames leading inward to a single square, the piece captures the nomadic heritage and detailed artistry of the Jat community of Kutch.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eJat Garasiya is practiced by the women of specific subgroups of the Kutchi Jat community. A counted-thread embroidery, it relies on a single stitch, a tiny cross stitch in double thread, to build continuous, mosaic-patterned designs.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis piece brings out the rectangle in all its variety: rectangle within rectangle, each frame carrying its own pattern. The outermost bands are filled with small diamonds and crosses in orange, rose, navy and cream. Inside these, bands of zigzag triangles run across the top and bottom, while columns of linked diamonds run down the sides. Square blocks of fine lattice mark the four corners of the inner frame, giving the whole design a strongly architectural feel.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAt the very centre, a red square medallion, built of nested squares in green, orange and red with a cross pattern running through it, forms the focal point. It is flanked by two rectangular panels in muted grey-green, each filled with stepped octagon and diamond patterns that repeat the medallion’s geometry on a quieter scale.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe palette combines warm oranges, roses and reds with cooler navy and grey-green, while white and cream highlights keep each band legible.
