The term ‘Pichwai’ refers to intricate paintings originally executed on cloth, which are traditionally hung on the back walls of temples. These beautifully detailed textiles serve a sacred purpose, created to adorn the shrines of Lord Shrinathji, a seven-year-old manifestation of Lord Krishna.

The central composition is rendered with the image of a cow. In Pichwai, her motif representation is associated with devotion, love, and motherhood. She is composed under a crisp-edged eight-petal flower. The petal is double-bordered and coloured in deep red. Rendered in a contemporary style, its head and neck are depicted facing left. The cow is adorned with ornaments, though not clearly seen, yet appears to have layers of chains and tassels attached to the sides of her horns, with a peacock feather (moorpankh) in between, symbolizing the presence of its lord, Lord Krishna. Her horns are rendered in blue with horn-caps.
Framing the flower petal, the rendition of lotus buds appears as the backdrop, symbolizing purity, prosperity, and good luck. Delicately painted with a tinge of pink hues, rendered with fine craftsmanship. There is a rendition of a pair of blooming buds and multiple closing buds, along with the leaves spreading their fans in a lyrical manner with tender curves and contours. The entire composition is set against a warm yellow.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1194/1498/files/1._Cow_and_Lotus_Bud_in_Pichwai_Plates_by_Dinesh_Soni.jpg?v=1791795370
