Sikki Grass is a long, shiny, golden-coloured grass obtained from the lands of Bihar, particularly Mithila, used for weaving and decorating various objects.

This artwork shows the scene of the newly wedded bride sitting on the palanquin, decked-up with a highly ornate dress and jewellery. The palanquin is decorated with a lot of embellishments, like a fringe at the front and at the base, with a lotus motif set at the edge of the palanquin, symbolising abudance and purity. This palanquin is carried by a group of men, all attired in a similar manner with a turban on their heads and a lower garment.The two carrier-bearers at the front are holding musical instruments such as a trumpet and a drum, signifying joy and celebration. The rendition of their legs suggests the movement.

The scene is set against a beautiful landscape and the lustrous moonlight. The presence of trees, grasses and shrubs suggests a scene full of life and vegetation. Valleys are rendered in the distance and the birds are depicted with precise weaving of the grass. The sikki grass is woven and pasted with careful attention and precision. This landscape orientation is framed by the long stick of sikki grass, joined together.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1194/1498/files/1._Farewell_of_the_Bride_in_Sikki_Grass_Craft_by_Dhirendra_Kumar.jpg?v=1793100465
