Renowned for its rich colors, dense composition, and high material value, the art form is instantly recognizable by its heavy 3D gesso work embedded with semi-precious stones and meticulously layered with pure 24-karat gold foil.

Central to the composition is a seated Goddess Gajalakshmi or Kari Lakshmi, in sanskrit, dressed in red garments, upon a stylized lotus platform at the heart of the circular mandala. She holds blossoming pink lotuses in her upper hands, granting protection and infinite material blessings with her lower hands. She is flanked symmetrically by two majestic white elephants holding golden water vessels in their upturned trunks to perform her celestial bath, while two royal female fly-whisk attendants fan her from the outer flanks.

The entire composition is fixed inside a garbhagriha shaped panel with a vimana above which celestial gandharvas are seen floating in the clouds and paying their respects. The choice of the round, halo-like frame focuses the three-dimensional gold work entirely inward toward the calm countenance of the Goddess, serving as an active visual anchor for enduring prosperity and harmony.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1194/1498/files/1._Kari_Lakshmi_in_Tanjore_by_Tanjore_Art_Gallery.png?v=1791866609
