Renowned for its rich colors, dense composition, and high material value, the art form is instantly recognizable by its heavy 3D gesso work embedded with semi-precious stones and meticulously layered with pure 24-karat gold foil.

The composition focuses on the court of Lord Kodanda Rama, who stands majestically with a green complexion, holding his signature bow, Kodanda. He is flanked immediately by his divine consort, Goddess Sita, on his right and his loyal brother, Lakshmana, on his left under an expansive, heavily carved gold pavilion. The layout is populated by devoted attendants at the base flanks, paying respects at the Lord's feet.

The entire composition is fixed inside a garbhagriha shaped panel with a massive, tiered golden vimana canopy above, flanked by lush green banana leaves that anchor the courtyard setting. The brilliant gleam of the heavy three-dimensional gold relief work unifies the entire temple layout, transforming this classic narrative scene into a grand, protective visual window of the cosmic divine.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1194/1498/files/1._Kodanda_Rama_in_Tanjore_by_Tanjore_Art_Gallery.jpg?v=1791878234
