Madhubani art, also known as Mithila painting, is primarily popular in the state of Bihar, especially in the Madhubani region. Traditionally, this painting was done on the walls and floors of homes during festivals, weddings, and other special occasions.

As the story goes, Krishna saw the gopis going for a bath in the river. He followed them, manages to steal their clothes, and sits on a treetop with their clothes (hanging all around the branches) and plays his flute (murali). The gopis are shocked when they realize their clothes are gone. When they look up, they find a smiling Krishna sitting atop a high branch, asking them to come out of the water and get their clothes from him. The gopis fail to cajole him into giving them their clothes, so they are forced to come out of the water and beg for them with their extended arm gestures, pleading with him.

The Yamuna River is teeming with aquatic animals like fish, crabs and tadpoles, along with the blooming lotuses, symbolising harmony and prosperity. The branches, loaded with blossoms and fruits, become a sanctuary for birds and peacocks.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1194/1498/files/1._Lord_Krishna_Leela_Madhubani_By_Ambika_Devi.jpg?v=1793003900
