About the Artwork +

In the traditional craft of Sabai Grass work, artist Gouri exhibits her creativity by weaving a basket with a circular base, adorned with alternating grey, red, and green triangles. This art form originates in the state of Odisha, India, where local artisans use Sabai grass to craft various items. The combination of grey, red, and green in the basket design creates a visually striking contrast. Grey serves as a neutral backdrop, allowing the bold and vibrant colors of red and green to stand out, elevating the overall aesthetic appeal. The use of red and green is evocative of specific seasons, with red symbolizing warmth and cheeriness and green representing freshness and nature. Together, they symbolize the transition from winter to spring or are employed in celebrating festive occasions like Christmas. The triangular pattern introduces a geometric element to the design, symbolizing order, structure, and balance. Triangles within a circular form carry various symbolic interpretations, representing the balance or union of opposing forces, while the circular base signifies unity, continuity, or cycles.
