About the Artwork +

Swarna Chitrakar portrays the illustrious figures enshrined in the rich hues and intricate patterns of the Bengal Pattachitra tradition. Seated with an air of ease and togetherness, the couple becomes the living embodiment of companionship. Their traditional attire, meticulously detailed in the Bengal Pattachitra style, merges seamlessly with the flora that surrounds them, highlighting their organic connection with the natural world. A tapestry of cultural reverence and artistic mastery, the canvas becomes a sanctuary where traditional artistry celebrates the heritage. Lush flora and vibrant fauna intertwine with the tapestry of their tale, their vibrant colours a reflection of their benevolent influence over the natural world. The canvas becomes a visual sonnet to the beauty of human connection and the timeless allure of nature's embrace.

    Artist

    Bengal Pattachitra

The Bengal Pattachitra is a visual and oral art tradition practised by the Patuas or Chitrakars of West Bengal. Islamic by faith, Patua artists represent a unique and secular art tradition. They earn their livelihood by telling stories from Hindu Mythology, local folklores, Sufi tradition and contemporary themes through paintings and songs. Though the origin of the Patua tradition has been difficult to trace for art historians, some claim the oral form goes back all the way to the 10th or 11th century CE!
