Ready To Ship/ In Stock artworks are shipped in under 2 weeks. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/ In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery.

Made To Order artworks will take 2-3 weeks to be made and shipped once they are ready. Returns are not applicable on Made To Order artworks.

Ruchi Nainwal

Ruchi Nainwal, hailing from the picturesque town of Bhimtal and now residing in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, is a remarkable artist specializing in the traditional art form of Aipan. Although she didn't receive formal training, her talent blossomed through observation and practice under the guidance of her mother and Bua.

Her journey into the world of Aipan art began unexpectedly when she entered a district competition in Nainital during her 9th grade and won first place, sparking her passion for the craft. Despite facing societal challenges and sexist remarks, Ruchi remained determined to pursue her passion.

Armed with a double Master's Degree in Hindi and Economics, Ruchi has become a master trainer for Aipan art with the government and holds the esteemed position of Aipan Art Project Head at Pahadi Haat. She actively participates in art fairs and has received recognition at both district and national levels.

Ruchi's dedication extends beyond her artistic endeavors; she empowers other women by employing them in her venture, providing them with a source of income and financial independence. Her commitment to supporting women's livelihoods is truly commendable.

Despite the commercialization of Aipan art, Ruchi remains deeply rooted in traditional techniques, particularly enjoying drawing Aipan designs on wood. Her favorite Aipan chowki, Laxmi Chowki, reflects her reverence for the art form's spiritual and cultural significance.

As she continues her journey as an artist and advocate for women's empowerment, Ruchi's story serves as an inspiration to aspiring artists and women alike, demonstrating the transformative power of passion, perseverance, and dedication to one's craft.

Aipan

Aipan is a traditional art form indigenous to the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. It holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for the people of the region. This intricate art form involves creating geometric patterns and motifs using rice flour, turmeric, and other natural pigments on the floors and walls of homes, temples, and public spaces. Legend and Tradition The history of Aipan can be traced back to ancient times, with references found in Hindu scriptures and mythology. Legend has it that Aipan was formerly created by Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva, as a way to welcome and honor guests into her home. Over time, this sacred art form evolved into a cherished tradition practiced during festivals, weddings, and other auspicious occasions. Technique and Details Aipan patterns are typically symmetrical and geometric, featuring motifs inspired by nature, mythology, and religious symbolism. These patterns are meticulously drawn freehand, with artists using their fingers or simple tools to create intricate designs. Common motifs include flowers, leaves, birds, and geometric shapes such as squares, triangles, and circles. Each element of an Aipan design carries symbolic significance, with certain patterns believed to invoke blessings, prosperity, and protection from evil spirits.
