About the Artwork +

Vinayak Art Glass Inlay Handicrafts portrays an awe-inspiring portrayal of the intricate plumage of a peacock framed within ornate beauty. The centerpiece of the canvas is the peacock, its majestic form rendered with painstaking attention to detail. Every feather is meticulously crafted using vibrant Thikri glass pieces, chosen for their simmering construction and reflective properties. The peacock's feathers cascade and unfurl, each one delicately shaped to convey a sense of graceful movement. The intricate patterns and textures of the feathers are faithfully replicated using an array of glass shapes and sizes, skillfully arranged to capture the intricate beauty found in nature. Surrounding the peacock is an ornate frame that further enhances the artwork's grandeur. Elaborate motifs, reminiscent of traditional designs, adorn the frame, evoking a sense of opulence and splendor.

Vinayak Art Glass inlay Handicrafts blue-tick

Vinayak

In the tapestry of Udaipur, Hemant Sharma weaves a legacy spanning 15 years in the exquisite craft of Pushteni work, a tradition passed down through generations. Learning the artisanal secrets from his father, he, alongside his brother and uncle, carries forth a cultural symphony unique to Rajasthan. Despite his education halting at the 10th grade, his journey into the artistic horizon remained uncharted until recently. His masterpieces paint the canvas of heritage, most notably exemplified by an ornate peacock adorning the Udaipur Palace, a testament to his intricate and labor-intensive craft. Beyond this opulent centerpiece, his repertoire spans from antique frames and furniture to the divine elegance of glass temples, encapsulating the rich heritage of old Udaipur.

While Hemant cherishes the vibrant traditions, the artistry faces hurdles in contemporary times, with a shift in consumer preferences towards modern interior elements, diverging from the opulence of heritage pieces. Challenges in promotion and governmental support restrain the elevation of this craft to a larger stage, hindering the realization of his aspirations to revive and expand this traditional art form. Despite these obstacles, Hemant envisions a future where heritage craftsmanship thrives, aiming to establish a gallery showcasing unique, unseen creations and growing his team of artisans, nurturing a vision where artistry stands tall with 15 or 20 dedicated creators. His journey is an endeavor not just in creation but in preserving a treasured heritage, a tale of resilience and aspiration amidst a changing artistic landscape.

Thikri Art

Thikri art is a form of glass mosaic or mirror inlay work from Rajasthan that adorned palaces, temples, and havelis (mansions) with its incredible beauty. Initially, Thikri craft was reserved for embellishing royal abodes, and majorly floral or ornamental motifs were used. However, over time, it permeated everyday life, embellishing a wide array of items such as furniture and jewelry, incorporating motifs ranging from geometry, vegetation, and animals to deities. History and Legend The art of Thikri was brought to India centuries ago by skilled artisans from Persia. Over time, it evolved and adapted to local sensibilities, becoming an integral part of Rajasthan's cultural landscape. The iconic song from the Bollywood movie 'Mughal-e-Azam,' released in 1960, features Madhubala dancing within the Sheesh Mahal, adorned by skilled Thikri artisans. The delightful craftsmanship not only enhanced the scene but also created an illusion of countless Madhubalas dancing simultaneously, reflecting the magic of this traditional art form. Technique and Style  Thikri artisans meticulously handcraft each piece, beginning with the selection of high-quality glass mirrors. These mirrors are cut into various shapes and sizes, ranging from tiny squares to intricate geometric patterns. The artisans then insert these mirrors into a base material, typically plaster or wood, using natural adhesives like gum Arabic or lime mortar. The magic of Thikri lies in its symmetrical patterns and meticulous craftsmanship where artisans skillfully arrange the mirrors to create mesmerizing designs that reflect light and create a dazzling play of colors.
