About the Artwork +

Mridu Moucham Bora's Assamese painting of the Rang Ghar transports viewers back to the grandeur of Ahom culture, capturing the essence of the royal sports pavilion in vibrant hues and intricate details. The Rang Ghar, meaning "House of Entertainment," stands tall as a testament to Assam's rich heritage, where Ahom kings and nobles once gathered to spectate buffalo fights and other sports during the Rongali Bihu festival. This iconic two-storeyed building, believed to be one of the oldest surviving amphitheatres in Asia, was initially constructed with bamboo and wood during Swargadeo Rudra Singha's reign and later rebuilt with bricks by Swargadeo Pramatta Singha in 1744-1751 A.D. Bora's painting skillfully captures the architectural magnificence of the Rang Ghar, evoking a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era.
Talented artists like Mridu Moucham Bora contribute to the preservation of Assamese culture through their art, reflecting the origin of Assamese painting as a form deeply rooted in the region's traditions and customs. The process involves meticulous attention to detail, with artists using natural pigments and intricate brushwork to bring historical landmarks like the Rang Ghar to life on canvas. Through their paintings, artists pay homage to Assam's rich history and cultural heritage, ensuring that iconic landmarks like the Rang Ghar continue to be celebrated for generations to come.
