About the Artwork +

Vidya Soni portrays a captivating scene before the eyes of the observer. Against a backdrop of a warm brown canvas, the rhythmic strokes and vibrant hues bring to life a mesmerising composition featuring a majestic tree that resembles a cart. The tree, portrayed with graceful branches stretching, stands tall and proud. Its trunk, intricately patterned with geometric motifs, symbolises strength and resilience. Nestled within the tree's branches, the cart takes shape, mirroring the rustic charm of rural life. Clasped serenely with the cart, a pair of cows, revered as sacred creatures in Indian culture, radiate tranquilty and purity. The colours used in this Mandana masterpiece are a symphony of hues. Earthy tones dominate the landscape, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The painting encapsulates the essence of rural life, evoking a deep connection to nature.

Pichwai Art

The art of Pichwai originated over 400 years ago, illustrating tales of Shrinathji, an incarnation of Krishna, the deity manifest as a seven-year-old child. Prominent in th Nathadwara region of Rajasthan especially in the Vaishnavite sect, the paintings are hand-painted on cloth or paper and depict different scenes and stills - lotuses, Radha, Gopis and cows are also frequent subjects. What started as a religious practice, is an art today and finds place in the form of paintings and wall hangings in homes of many art connoisseurs.
