About the Artwork +

This Tikuli painting by Ashok Kumar beautifully depicts Lord Ganapati. The framed artwork features Lord Ganesha at its center, enclosed within a circle. He is holding his traditional weapons, dressed in vibrant colors, and adorned with jewels, capturing immediate attention. Surrounding the central figure, multiple smaller circles contain miniature illustrations of Lord Ganesha in various forms, adding depth and detail to the piece. The painting is visually striking, combining minimalism with a vivid color palette. These bright and lively colors create an aesthetically pleasing effect, making the artwork both eye-catching and harmonious. The intricate details in Ganesha's attire and the surrounding miniatures showcase the artist's skill and dedication, bringing a sense of richness and cultural significance to the painting. Ashok Kumar's use of traditional Tikuli techniques, paired with a modern touch, results in a captivating blend of heritage and contemporary style. This piece not only highlights the divine presence of Lord Ganesha but also celebrates the intricate beauty of Tikuli art. It is a perfect addition to any collection, offering a glimpse into the rich traditions of Indian artistry while maintaining a fresh and vibrant appeal.

Tikuli

Tikuli, an unusual art style, is said to be over 800 years old. Tikuli originated in Patna, Bihar. Hand painting in this manner entails moulding glass into sheets and adorning and creating on them. The upper class is reported to have embellished them with gold and diamonds as a status signal. This artform is now done on hardboard plates and involves 15 phases, although it is still practised by individuals like the Santhal tribe of Bihar and volumes of Hindi literature.
