About the Artwork +

Renowned Madhubani artist, Vibhuti Nath in his painting elegantly illustrates a woman fetching water from a well while another woman stands oppositely carrying a pot on her head and offering her hand to two girls, with cows and peacock motifs around. The woman fetching water from the well and the other woman carrying a pot on her head represents the daily chores and responsibilities of women in the village, showcasing the importance of traditional practices and the role of women in maintaining the household. Cows and peacocks are revered in Indian culture, cows are seen as symbols of abundance and wealth, while peacocks represent beauty and fertility. Their presence in the painting symbolizes the hope for fertility and abundance in the community. The act of one woman offering her hand to two girls symbolizes the importance of community, mentorship, and cooperation. It signifies the passing down of traditional knowledge and skills from one generation to the next, strengthening the bonds within the community.
