About the Artwork +

This stunning Pithora painting by Chanchal Soni captures the essence of rural celebration and movement, rendered in the traditional tribal art style of the Rathwa and Bhilala communities. The composition centers around a vividly patterned horse cart, brought to life through rhythmic lines, vibrant colors, and symbolic geometry. The horse, boldly illustrated in alternating bands of blue, yellow, and brown, appears to be mid-trot, exuding energy and strength. A man stands confidently atop the cart's shaft, grasping the reins in one hand while raising the other in a gesture of joy or command, embodying a sense of control and purpose. Inside the beautifully canopied cart—detailed with delicate patterns and crowned with a symbolic floral motif—sits a man leisurely enjoying a hookah, a cultural symbol of relaxation and tradition in village life. Beside him, a woman dressed in a green dotted sari appears engaged in conversation, perhaps offering a pot or engaging in a moment of shared routine. The intricate wheel of the cart is colored in concentric circles of red, blue, and green, adding dynamism and symmetry to the artwork. The scene is enclosed in a decorative border featuring repeating triangular and geometric shapes in bright earthy tones, reinforcing the ceremonial nature of Pithora painting, often used to depict rituals, journeys, and blessings. This masterpiece crafted by the talented artsit Chanchal Soni is a testament of the Indian Heritage, which, through its composition and color, speaks volumes about community life, tradition, and the spirited journey through time and space, transporting you to the land of creativity and the tribal roots of Gujarat.
