About the Artwork +

Introducing a magnificent Pichwai painting crafted by the master artist Naveen Soni as he showcases a divine portrayal of Shrinathji, standing resplendent in the heart of a blooming lotus grove, flanked by sacred cows and celestial symbols. Rooted in the devotional traditions of Rajasthan, Pichwai paintings are deeply symbolic and often serve as sacred backdrops in temples dedicated to Shrinathji, a revered form of Bal Krishna. Here, the composition glows with delicate silver and gold leafing that brings a luminous radiance to every detail, from the deity’s intricate jewels and pearl garlands to the richly bordered floral vines.

Shrinathji, rendered in deep blue with serene eyes and a tender smile, wears a grand yellow crown and an opulent garland that cascades in rhythmic pearls. He raises his left hand in his iconic Govardhan pose, while his other arm rests gracefully by his side. Surrounding him are soft pink lotuses, stylized trees, and white cows marked with auspicious orange handprints, all placed symmetrically upon green lotus leaves. The entire scene is bordered with fine floral detailing, each petal touched with metallic shimmer, enhancing the sacred atmosphere of the painting.

Silver and gold leafing in Pichwai painting adds a luminous, opulent dimension, enhancing the divine presence and ceremonial grandeur of the artwork. This large-format work is not only a visual homage to Shrinathji but a spiritual landscape in itself where devotion, beauty, and the divine are united in a timeless Nathdwara tradition. The luminous interplay of silver and gold leafing adds depth and sanctity, transforming the painting into a living presence meant for darshan.

silver and gold leafing.

Naveen Soni blue-tick

Naveen
Artist Naveen Soni hails from a family of traditional artists in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. He was trained from a young age by his grandfather, Shilp Guru Shri Badrilal Chitrakaar—a National Awardee in Miniature and Pichwai Art—and his father, Shri Sharad Soni. His natural talent was nurtured in a culturally rich environment, deeply rooted in traditional artistry. Naveen is a versatile artist who works in various classical styles such as Udaipur, Nathdwara, Bundi, Kishangarh, Kota, Kangra, Basholi, Pahari, Mughal, and Jain schools, as well as in contemporary forms. Naveen regards the traditional art of Pichwai painting as his cultural inheritance and strives to blend tradition with modernity. He has continued the unbroken legacy of creating richly hued Pichwai artworks on cloth and paper using natural stone pigments and gold leaf. His Pichwai paintings beautifully depict the intricate and ever-changing Shringar (adornments) of Lord Krishna, enriched with imaginative use of decorative elements, motifs, and accessories. Constantly exploring new artistic expressions, Naveen has also experimented by fusing contemporary and miniature styles to create aesthetically unique artworks. He has showcased his work in numerous exhibitions across India.
