Meet Manoranjan Chitrakar, a pattachitra artist (also called patua in West Bengal). "In West Bengal, the word chitrakar refers to patachitra painters. We have taken Chitrakar as our last name for hundreds of years." In those demo, he has painted Lord Ganesha. All the colours that he has used are traditional colours that they make on their own- like yellow is made with mixing raw turmeric with the sticky juice of wood apple. About Ganesha- he is the Lord of Good Fortune who provides prosperity, fortune and success. He is the Lord of Beginnings and the Remover of Obstacles- both material and spiritual obstacles. Interestingly, he also places obstacles in the path of those who need to be checked. Lots of fun stories about how Ganesha actually got his elephant head- that's a post for another time :) , in the meantime, watch this beautiful Ganesha painting by Manoranjan Chitrakar come to life.
