Artist Venkat Shyam presents an abstract Gond painting of a monkey. Originating in the tribal Gond community, which lives in close communion with nature, these paintings portray a strong belief that every aspect of nature is meaningful and sacred. Monkey figures often symbolize the playful and mischievous aspects of human nature.
They represent the childlike innocence, curiosity, and humour inherent in all of us. In Gond culture, monkeys are considered symbols of playfulness, intelligence, and mischief, often appearing in stories and legends. The center of this composition is a large monkey in black and white, with smaller colorful monkeys on and around him. The mace in his hand represents the Hindu monkey god, Hanuman, the two big eyes representing his all-seeing nature.
