About the Artwork +
This enchanting Gond painting by Venkat Shyam beautifully illustrates the “Tree of Life,” a central motif in tribal philosophy and folklore, symbolizing creation, continuity, and cosmic connection. At the heart of the artwork stands a magnificent tree with a deeply entwined trunk, depicted in rich textured black with cross-hatched patterns, which on close appearance is "Lahrdaar", the signature motif of Venkat Shyam, known for adding dynamic movement, and gives a powerful, grounded presence. The trunk gracefully branches out into an explosion of foliage, where vibrant yellow and magenta leaves alternate across the canopy, representing the changing cycles of nature—birth, growth, decay, and renewal.
The intertwined branches convey unity and the interdependence of life forms, a belief rooted in Gond cosmology. Perched at the base and flitting among the branches are elegant birds, rendered in striking shades of deep blue, indigo, and violet, each adorned with delicate patterns of dots and lines. These birds symbolize souls, messengers of the spirit world, and keepers of ancestral knowledge. Their placement throughout the composition emphasizes the harmony between earth and sky, flora and fauna. The white background provides an expansive purity, allowing the vivid colors and intricate details to shine, while subtly evoking a sacred space untouched by time.
This painting goes beyond aesthetics; it serves as a spiritual map, linking humanity to nature and the divine. Venkat Shyam, with his signature use of symbolism and fine patterning, reinterprets this ancient theme with contemporary clarity and emotional depth, making the “Tree of Life” not just a visual centerpiece but a living expression of balance, reverence, and regeneration in the Gond tradition.
“Prices may vary from the mentioned price based on the artist’s work, especially if the painting involves highly detailed work.”
