This piece represents a unique artistic collaboration bringing together two traditional art forms of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The central Vishnumurthi is created in the Cheriyal art form by artist Sravan Kumar, while the surrounding Dashavatharam figures are handcrafted in the traditional Kondapally toy-making tradition. Together, these two distinctive craft traditions come alive as a single integrated composition mounted on a wooden panel.
Cheriyal painting is a traditional storytelling art form from Telangana, historically created as painted scrolls accompanying oral narratives of mythology, epics and folklore. Known for its bold colours, expressive figures, and decorative compositions, the tradition brings episodes from Hindu mythology into vivid visual form.
At the centre of the painted panel is Lord Vishnu reclining upon the coiled body of Ananta Shesha. The serpent’s multiple heads rise behind him in a fan-like hood rendered with soft tones and intricate pattern work, while its woven coils form the deity’s cosmic bed. Vishnu is rendered with four arms, a blue complexion, a broad forehead marked with an urdhva pundra tilak, and expressive features. His hands hold sacred attributes including the shankha (conch) and Sudarshana Chakra (discus). He wears a bright yellow patterned dhoti (pitambar) along with layered necklaces, armlets, and an elaborate mukut.
Above Vishnu, Lord Brahma appears seated upon a pink lotus emerging from the deity’s navel, recalling the cosmic account of creation. Near Vishnu’s feet, Goddess Lakshmi is depicted in profile in a green saree, performing seva by attending to the deity. Beside her, another female attendant holds a ceremonial fan, creating a scene of intimate divine service. The lower section represents the cosmic ocean (Kshirasagara), painted in a light blue-grey ground filled with stylized fish, shells, and lotus stalks.
Surrounding the central painted scene is a gallery of three-dimensional, hand-carved Kondapally wooden dolls representing the Dashavatharam (the ten incarnations of Vishnu). Positioned on individual wooden pedestals against the rich red background, these sculpted figures depict Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parashurama, Rama, Balarama, Krishna, and Kalki (alongside Hayagriva). Through this fusion of Cheriyal surface painting by Sravan Kumar and Kondapally wooden sculpture, the composition presents the cosmic presence of Vishnu and his divine avatars, symbolizing the ongoing cycle of creation, preservation, and dissolution (srishti, sthiti, samhara).
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Returns and Replacements
