This Chittara painting by Ishwar Chowda Naik beautifully illustrates the theme of Mundige Chittara, a symbolic representation of marriage rituals and community life. The artwork is composed of bold geometric patterns, including triangles, squares, and dots, arranged in a balanced and harmonious sequence that reflects the cycles of life, fertility, and prosperity. At the heart of the composition is the depiction of a house, surrounded by stylized forms of animals, humans, birds, trees, and daily life objects, symbolizing the pillars and foundational aspects of a home.
In the center of the artwork, the bride and groom are depicted being carried in a palanquin, a traditional feature of wedding processions. Above the palanquin is the Kelu Kumbha, a sacred water pot, symbolizing purity and auspiciousness within the community. Chittara art is a traditional tribal art form originating from the Deevaru community in the Sagara region of Karnataka, India.
