About the Artwork +

Purna Chandra Ghosh's appliqué art vividly portrays the coexistence of two worlds separated by a distinct boundary. On one side, bustling city life unfolds with towering buildings, bustling streets, and modern vehicles. Meanwhile, the other half reveals the serene beauty of rural existence, with lush fields, peaceful cattle settlements, and simplicity. A flock of birds soaring across the sky unites the divided scenes, symbolizing our shared existence under the same celestial canopy. Ghosh's masterpiece bursts with vibrant colors, each stitch a testament to painstaking labor and dedication, harmonizing contrasting landscapes into a captivating tapestry of unity amidst diversity.
Appliqué art involves sewing fabric pieces onto a background to form a design. Originating from the French word "appliquer," meaning "to apply," it employs sewing, embroidery, or adhesive methods. This technique, adaptable to hand or machine work, allows for intricate patterns using varied fabrics. Appliqué has a rich history across cultures, used to embellish clothing, quilts, and tapestries. It's a versatile art form blending traditional and modern styles, adding depth and texture to creations. Artists utilize it to enhance visual appeal, creating captivating designs with a combination of colors, textures, and fabric types.
