In this striking Koftgiri artwork, artist Shyamlata Gahlot presents a powerful heraldic lion rendered in bold silhouette. Koftgiri is a traditional metal inlay technique in which fine silver or gold is embedded into a darker metal surface, creating contrast through precision rather than colour. Set against a deep red ground, the blackened form of the lion dominates the composition with strength and clarity.
The lion is shown rearing upright, its limbs extended and tail curling outward, evoking movement, courage and authority. Delicate silver floral inlays punctuate the surface of the figure, softening its fierce posture while adding rhythmic detail. These small blossoms appear across the body and limbs, creating a quiet dialogue between power and ornamentation. Though minimal in palette, the work carries a strong visual presence.
