The royal peacocks have been a frequent depiction in the traditional Indian arts. A favourite of Shri Krishna, the peacocks are an important element in the Pichwai paintings. This contemporary Pichwai depicts the regal peacock resting on the porch, nestled amongst the lush green banana trees. The bright red background highlights the royal blue of the peacock, while the beige highlights its intricately detailed feathers. Borrowing elements from the neighbouring school of Mughal miniatures, the painting is set within an arched architectural setting with ornate floral designs.
