This majestic antique Tanjore painting depicts Skanda, also known as Kartikeya or Murugan, the Hindu god of war. Tanjore painting is a classical South Indian art form characterized by rich colors, surface relief work and the use of gold foil and semi-precious stones.
In this composition, Skanda holds traditional attributes including his vel or spear, gifted to him by his mother Parvati. His hands are in the abhaya mudra (gesture of protection) and varada mudra (gesture of blessing). He is richly ornamented in gold, with his consorts flanking him on either side. To the left is Valli, depicted with green skin and to the right is Deivayanai, depicted with fair skin. They are seated on the peacock, the vahana of Kartikeya, who stands on a snake, symbolising the victory of good over evil and conquest of the ego.
The entire composition is rendered in vibrant colors and gold highlights, with depictions of attendants and devotees worshipping the deity, rooting the artwork into a spiritual context.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
