Shrinathji, a seven-year-old manifestation of Shri Krishna is the principal deity venerated in Nathdwara. His worship involves numerous daily and annual forms (swarups). This painting focuses on the depiction of Shrinathji in a Tanjore style. He is depicted with a raised left arm, representing the Govardhan Leela, his lifting of Mount Govardhan to protect the villagers from Indra’s wrath. He is adorned with traditional jewelry – necklaces of precious and semi-precious stones, armbands, and anklets – and a lotus garland, symbolizing purity. Below him are a paan beeda (betel leaf offering box), a jal patra (water utensil) and a prasad dabbi (food offering box), integral to Shrinathji’s worship. The ornate golden temple arch guides the viewer’s attention to Shrinathji, dressed in a bright, colourful attire.
