This Tanjore painting by artist Sanjay Tandekar is a majestic depiction of Lord Venkateswara (Lord Balaji), rendered with the regal opulence characteristic of the Thanjavur school. The deity is shown in a standing posture, adorned with elaborate jewelry, multiple garlands of flowers and a grand crown, all set within a temple sanctum. Two hanging lamps (deepams) illuminate the sacred space, flanking the deity and adding to the devotional atmosphere.
Tandekar utilizes the classic gesso and gold foil technique to achieve a sense of divine permanence. A thick gesso paste is applied to create a high-relief texture on the deity’s ornaments, the multi-layered garlands, and the ornate pillars of the temple arch. These raised areas are then meticulously covered with 22-karat gold foil, which radiates against the deep obsidian-blue background. The composition is further enriched with vibrant pink, green, and orange patterns on the garments and background, while the outer border is meticulously studded with red and green stones, transforming the painting into a jewel-like icon.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
