This antique carved wooden mask represents the fierce aspect of Kali, rendered in a bold, expressive folk idiom. The face is elongated and stylised in high relief, with deeply set almond-shaped eyes, a pronounced ridged nose, and the dramatically protruding tongue, an iconographic attribute of the goddess, signifying both her ferocity and her role as a destroyer of ego and illusion.
A tiered crown rises above, its serrated, leaf-like projections creating a radiating silhouette that amplifies the mask’s commanding presence. Elaborate circular ear ornaments and incised bands across the headdress introduce rhythmic surface detail, while visible tool marks and slight asymmetries attest to hand-carving rather than mechanical production.
Traces of polychromy, predominantly deep reds and blacks remain embedded in the wood, their worn, mottled condition forming a natural patina that speaks to age, handing, and possible ritual context. The chromatic contrast heightens the mask’s emotive force, aligning with vernacular traditions in which such images function not merely as representations, but as embodiments of protective, apotropaic power.
Displayed as a wall-mounted object, the mask operates simultaneously as sculpture and sacred image, translating devotional iconography into the visceral language of regional woodcarving practices.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
Once your order is placed, our team stays in constant communication with the artist to track the progress and ensure the quality of your order. You will receive regular updates from us throughout this process.
All MeMeraki artworks are hand-painted. In rare occasions, artist may face delays due to weather, health, prior commitments or force majeure. Our team will reach out to you with revised timelines in case of such delays. We appreciate your understanding and patience in such situations.
