This beautiful Cheriyal mask painting by the artist Sai Kiran features a stunning Tiger Face. The yellow base color of the tiger's face is bright and eye-catching, symbolizing energy and vitality, while the red stripes add a layer of fierceness and intensity. Its design is further enhanced by the confident black lines that outline the contours and patterns. This unique masterpiece transcends traditional painting, embodying the art form's rich history and vibrant allure.
Traditionally, these masks are used during performances of folk theatre and storytelling, particularly in the region of Telangana, India. Cheriyal masks and busts are crafted using a traditional mask-making technique that consists of an elaborate five-step process: molding, drying, decorating, smoothing, and painting. Generally, they are made from materials like wood, coconut shells, and sawdust, combined with tamarind seed paste to create a sturdy yet lightweight structure. Natural dyes and pigments are used to apply the vivid colors, which are often derived from minerals and plants. The detailing, such as the black outlines in Sai Kiran’s tiger mask, is done with a fine brush, showcasing the artist’s skill and precision.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
