This Gond painting by Kailash Pradhan imagines a fantastical bird mid-motion, its form suspended between flight and stride. Originating in the tribal Gond community, which lives in close communion with nature, these paintings portray a strong belief that every aspect of nature is animate and sacred.The creature’s rounded head and large, alert eye lead the composition forward, while its elongated legs stretch beneath as if running across an unseen ground.
Its body is filled with rhythmic, scalloped patterns in deep blues, punctuated by tiny dots that animate the surface with quiet energy. The wings, spread wide in brilliant orange and soft violet, introduce a striking contrast that gives the figure a sense of lift and momentum. The tail feathers, darker and more subdued, trail behind to balance the vibrant upper half.
Set against a plain background, the stylized form becomes the sole focus, allowing the intricate detailing and bold palette to speak clearly. The segmented legs and patterned torso echo the Gond tradition’s way of turning living beings into decorative, pulsating forms.
This painting showcases two of Kailash Pradhan's signature styles, the unique Parsa Paan pattern which resembles betel leaves, which are offered as a symbol of respect at significant events like weddings and social gatherings, and are also used in traditional medicine for digestion and respiratory issues amidst the Gond tribe; and the Khaddar pattern, inspired by the fibres of Khadi cotton cloth.
Through its playful stylization, careful patterning, and dynamic posture, the painting captures not just a bird, but a lively expression of motion and imagination rooted in the visual storytelling language of Gond art.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
