This is a divine Pichwai painting by artist Kailash Sahu portraying Shrinathji during daan leela, in real gold and natural pigments.
Pichwai painting is a devotional textile art tradition from Nathdwara, Rajasthan, created to be hung behind the murti of Shrinathji, a form of Krishna worshipped at the Nathdwara temple. Traditionally rendered in natural pigments, gold, and silver leaf on cloth, Pichwai paintings depict the deity across the seasons and festivals of the Pushtimarg devotional calendar, combining fine detail with a scale meant to fill and frame the sanctum itself.
At the centre of the composition is Shrinathji in his iconic Govardhan Dhari pose, with his left hand raised gracefully, in his green and orange garments. He is heavily ornamented with pearl and gemstone necklaces, accompanied by flower and lotus garlands, gold and gemstone armbands and earrings, a nath (nose ring), and an elaborately stylised peacock feather headdress, the diamonds on his nose and chin adding to his beauty. His hair is braided with gold accessories, as he holds his flute and kamal chadi in his right hand. At his shoe-clad feet are the ritualistic Bhog, Paan Beeds, Prasad Dibbi, and a Jal Patra (Water Pot) with a pink bolster on one side.
He stands in a niche framed in gold with gemstone patterns. Beside him stand two gopis with pots on their heads. They are dressed in traditional attires - ghagra, choli and odhani in pink and orange with elaborate jewellery. There are sparrows and parrots on a pavilion floor, with a depiction of Yamuna river adorned with blossoming lotus buds and with a golden peacock fountain.
In the foreground is another scene depicting Yamuna ji and Mahaprabhu ji. Standing to the left is the graceful, personified goddess of the sacred Yamuna River. Representing ultimate devotion and purification, she is shown holding an aarti thali, paying her reverence to the Lord. Standing to the right is Mahaprabhuji, a representation of Vallabhacharya, the revered spiritual master and founder of the Pushtimarg tradition. He is holding a lotus garland in offering to the Lord.
This composition is set in the Nandvan at dawn, with a backdrop of sacred trees and the sun rising from behind the Govardhan mountain. It is framed with a layered border of thin yellow strips encasing a thick dark border ornate with pink floret vines.
