This magnificent Gomira mask, crafted by the master artisan Kalyan Chandra Sarkar, is a striking representation of tribal artistry, showcasing the profound cultural symbolism of the Adibasi community. The mask features a dual-faced design, symbolizing the coexistence of contrasting forces like good and evil, life and death, or human and divine realms. The lower face presents a fierce expression with exaggerated features, including hollow eyes and an open mouth, evoking a sense of raw power and mysticism. Above it, the second face crowned with an intricately carved figure of an animal, possibly a bull—represents celestial or spiritual elements. The animal's posture, detailed with star-like engravings, adds an ethereal dimension, signifying cosmic connections. The mask’s horns on either side, along with circular ear motifs and geometric designs, emphasize the ritualistic purpose of the artwork, making it a vital element in tribal ceremonies and dances.
