This Rabari embroidery work by Gitaben Bhavesh Rabari is a circular floral pattern formed by a clean circular core at the centre, from which a dense ring of radiating teardrop and triangular panels in burnt orange, olive and warm brown bursts outward like petals.
The embroidery work employed here is the Dhebariya Rabari Katab work (a form of applique traditionally done by the Rabari women of Kutch) features bold shapes. Rabari embroidery is a vibrant, intricate textile craft traditionally practiced by the nomadic and semi-nomadic Rabari pastoralists of the Kutch region in Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan. It is defined by bold geometric motifs, dense elongated chain stitches (cheereli saankdi), and the abundant use of mirrors (aabhlas).
At the centre, concentric rings in orange, olive, and grey narrow steadily toward a single stitched core, the circular form giving the whole motif a fluid, rotational quality, as though the surrounding petals were spinning outward from a charkha, or spinning wheel. Radiating from this core, alternating teardrop and triangular panels fill the field, each marked with small stitched diamond outlines, spaces traditionally reserved for tiny circular mirrors (abhla), left here as open geometric accents.
The composition is worked entirely on a deep indigo-blue background, framed by tiered borders: an inner green line of fine chain stitch tracing the radiating points, a wider multicolored patterned band providing structural depth and an outer brown border finishing the panel's edge. This floral layout, with its circular centre, is a recurring central block in traditional square Rabari textiles such as rumals and chaklas, and its bold madder-and-olive palette worked against indigo cloth reflects the tradition's preference for saturated, high-contrast colour.
