This brilliant square textile panel showcases Jat Dhaneta embroidery, a traditional craft celebrated for its robust texture, complex geometry and intricate mirrorwork. Through a highly structured grid composition, the piece captures the technical brilliance and rich nomadic heritage of the Jat community of Kutch.
Jat Dhaneta is one of the four major embroidery styles practiced by the specific subgroups of the Kutchi Jat community. Traditionally rendered on the yokes of structural garments, the art form is defined by its solid, sturdy appearance and intensely textured surface. The style is uniquely recognized by geometric and abstract motifs built upon a foundational grid, characterized by two distinctive features, a tiny mirror embedded directly at the center of each motif, and highly structured, radiating lines that flow within the designs and all over the composition.
The central composition of this panel features an elaborate array of alternating concentric circles, diamonds and flower-like motifs (squares with semicircles on its four sides). This piece is further surrounded by similar motifs all around. At the top and bottom, there are two identical broad bands, These bands prominently feature large circular wheel-like medallions, along with semicircular motifs of a similar design.
The color palette relies on earthy tones such as rust red, olive green, slate grey and mustard yellow, all defined and separated by fine, crisp lines of cream thread that establish the underlying grid structure. There are small, round mirrors (abhla) embedded at the core of these geometric forms. These mirrors form perfect vertical and horizontal lines across the composition, reflecting light beautifully.
A key feature of Jat Dhaneta embroidery is the flawless uniformity and structural balance of its layout. Despite being rendered entirely by counting warp and weft threads on a thick, coarse cotton fabric. The tension of the thousands of interlocking cross stitches ensures the entire panel sits perfectly flat in its square form, and the base fabric underneath the embroidery does not show through.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Returns and Replacements
