This striking square textile panel showcases Jat Garaasiya embroidery, a traditional craft celebrated for its rigorous geometric structure, mosaic-like aesthetic and exceptional technical precision. Through an incredibly dense and mathematically sound grid composition, this piece beautifully captures the nomadic heritage and meticulous artistry of the Jat community of Kutch.
Jat Garaasiya is a specialized embroidery style practiced exclusively by the women of specific subgroups of the Kutchi Jat community. Historically rendered on the yokes of garments, this art form is distinctively executed as a counted thread embroidery style. Using only a single type of stitch, a tiny cross stitch rendered in double thread, a continuous pattern that closely resembles the complex mosaics found in Islamic tile work is created.
The central composition is a uniform network of interlocking squares and diamonds that repeat symmetrically. The grid is constructed using fine lines of cream thread, establishing a balanced framework that remains perfectly consistent across the entire design. Within this grid are alternating bands of bold colours.
Diamonds alternate in rows between red and green centers, framed by steps of warm yellow and royal blue. The execution of the tiny cross stitches is so densely packed that it creates a heavy, sculptural quality, completely covering the underlying fabric and creating a vibrant, tactile surface, a key feature of this embroidery style.
Reflecting the traditional framing strategies of Kutchi textiles, the composition is tightly enclosed by a border of alternating light and dark stitches along the outermost edges. This clean, structured frame neatly grounds the artwork, enclosing the vibrant grid within a traditional finish."

No, we currently sell artworks unframed (unless explicitly mentioned otherwise) and do not provide framing services.
We ship worldwide. All artworks are handmade and couriered securely in transit safe packaging sutaible for the artwork.
