This Madhubani painting by Ambika Devi presents a dynamic scene that illustrates the vital connection between celestial energy and aquatic life. The composition is divided diagonally, creating two distinct but harmonious realms of existence.
In the upper-left quadrant, a vibrant Sun God radiates warmth and energy. The sun's yellow face, detailed with serene eyes and a red tilak, is framed by concentric rings of gray and black patterns, from which sharp, orange solar rays emerge. A lush tree with deep green leaves, red blossoms, and yellow fruit grows toward the sun, its branches arching across the top of the canvas to symbolize the growth fueled by solar light.
The lower-right section depicts a thriving aquatic world separated by a curved, decorative white-and-red border. Within the textured gray water, three large, intricately patterned fish swim amongst red lotuses. These fish are masterfully rendered in the Bharni style, featuring vibrant scales in multi-colored checkerboard and diamond patterns of orange, turquoise, red, and yellow. Their large, watchful eyes and decorative fins mirror the detail found in the celestial sun above.
The entire work is enclosed within a repetitive triangular border (also known as the singada or water chestnut border) of red and blue, all set inside a thick, solid black margin. This framing ties the celestial and aquatic elements together, emphasizing the traditional Mithila belief that the energy of the sun sustains all life, from the highest branches to the depths of the water.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
Once your order is placed, our team stays in constant communication with the artist to track the progress and ensure the quality of your order. You will receive regular updates from us throughout this process.
All MeMeraki artworks are hand-painted. In rare occasions, artist may face delays due to weather, health, prior commitments or force majeure. Our team will reach out to you with revised timelines in case of such delays. We appreciate your understanding and patience in such situations.

Madhubani art, also known as Mithila art, originates from the Mithila region of Bihar, India, and is celebrated for its intricate patterns, vibrant colors, and profound cultural significance. Traditionally created by women on walls and floors during auspicious occasions, these paintings depict Hindu mythology, nature, folklore, and daily life, often incorporating Hindu deities, scenes from epics, and natural motifs like flowers and animals. Legend suggests its origins trace back to King Janak's commission for Sita's wedding. Artists traditionally use natural pigments from plants and minerals, applied with homemade bamboo and cotton brushes, filling the entire surface with fine detail. While some contemporary artists use synthetic paints, many maintain traditional methods. The art form gained international recognition in the 1960s and has since expanded to various mediums beyond walls, including canvases and textiles. Distinct styles like Kachni (line art), Bharni (filling art), Godna (tattoo art), Tantrik (spiritual), and Kohbar (marriage rituals) exist, each with unique characteristics.
