Step into a world of drama and theatrics! This stunning oleograph, born from a painting by Raja Ravi Varma, thrusts you into a pivotal Ramayana scene: the aftermath of Indrajit's (Meghanada's) triumph over Indra. Seeking a glimpse into the backstory: Meghanada, Ravana's son, a Shiva devotee, mastered invisibility. He vanquished Jayanta (son of Lord Indra) and then, using his art, defeated and captured Indra himself, holding him hostage in Lanka. Only Brahma's intervention secured Indra's release, bestowing the name 'Indrajit' as a boon. TThis oleograph showcases the next scene, where Varma freezes the epic tale's climax: Indrajit, radiant in gold, stands center, presenting his spoils. Ravana, regal under a royal parasol and surrounded by attendants, receives him with pride. This tableau underscores Indrajit's might and Ravana's victory. Crucially, in the foreground, the apsara Suchi is held or comforted, a poignant detail contextualizing the spoils of war. Varma masterfully blends Indian myth with European realism.
