Ram, Sita and Lakshman's journey to the forest, Madhubani by Ambika devi

This portrayal of Ram, Sita and Lakshman embarking on a boat in the Ganges River to reach the forest when they were exiled is a Madhubani Art from Ambika Devi, depicting a period of physical and spiritual transcendence and liminality that they had to take before they fully incorporate the life of a forest dweller. The boat symbolises the challenges and obstacles that Ram, Sita, and Lakshman will face in the forest, and is also a metaphor for their soul's spiritual quest for enlightenment in that time. The water on which the boat floats also signifies the purity, spirituality, flow of life and the character's destinies that lay ahead. The bright hues and shades obtained in Madubani paintings are sourced naturally from plant products like sandalwood, cow dung, soot, rice powder, marigold, and other flowers. Lakshman and the boatman in the painting both represent their immense devotion and respect to Ram and Sita as Lakshman accompanies Lord Ram and Sita to the forest while the boatman renders his services to take them to the forest. The Ramayana is revered as one of the most sacred texts in Mithila and stories from the Ramayana have been passed down for generations orally as well as through such Madhubani paintings painted by women on the walls of their houses. It is believed that it was king Janak who first propagated Madhubani paintings as he called upon an artist to paint his daughter Sita's marriage to Lord Ram in a style that is today mostly associated with the Madhubani paintings. Even today, significant stories from the Ramayana are beautifully portrayed and popularised by many Madhubani artists originating from Mithila.

Domestic Orders

All prices are inclusive of GST and applicable Indian taxes.

• We offer free shipping on orders above ₹999 for all artworks, except Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri.
• A flat shipping rate of ₹249 applies to orders below ₹999.

Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri

Shipping is charged on a per-kilogram basis, due to the delicate and bulky nature of these items.

International Orders

• A flat shipping charge of ₹4,000 applies to international artwork orders.
• Customs duties, taxes, or import charges in the buyer’s country are not included and must be borne by the buyer.
• Shipping rates for Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri artworks will be calculated based on weight.

Additonal Shipping Charges

Extra charges may be applicable for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• If the article requires additional packaging (such as a wooden crate) to ensure safe shipping due to its delicate nature.
• Custom-framed artworks.
• Artworks where shorter side exceeds 36 inches or Decor items with any side over 35 inches.
• If you request express shipping. Contact support to check availability.
• The order contains more than two different product types.

All artworks are handmade and couriered securely packed in a tube.

This artwork will be Made to Order and will take 2-3 weeks to be made and shipped. Returns are not applicable on Made To Order artworks.
