This vibrant Cheriyal mask comes from Telangana’s storytelling tradition, crafted with tamarind paste, paper and cloth; and painted with bold, graphic lines so expressions read clearly even from afar. Each mask represents a vivid character from folk narratives, where exaggeration, color and expression carry meaning as much as the story itself.
This mask stands out for its two skin tones - a warm cream face and a striking blue nose and features, suggesting a being that does not belong to just one form. Wide, watchful eyes, a curling black moustache, and sharp white tusks give it a dramatic presence, while the small horns and rounded ears frame the face with theatrical flair. The scorpion painted on the tongue adds a subtle warning: this is a character who may surprise you. Its wide, unflinching eyes and exaggerated features echo the kolli kannu of Drishti paintings, where seeing and being seen becomes a quiet act of protection. Like the guardian faces once painted on Tamil Nadu’s walls, this mask turns bold imagery into a watchful presence that marks space and absorbs unseen harm.
In a story, this figure becomes a shapeshifter, a trickster spirit who moves between forms, moods and identities. Sometimes he appears friendly and familiar, other times, strange and unsettling. He listens, observes and adapts, teaching through humor and unease that identity is fluid and that what we see is only one version of the truth.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
