This Gond painting by Kailash Pradhan depicts a stylised tigress accompanied by two cubs, their bodies articulated through segmented colour fields and intricate patterning, presenting the feline family as a rhythmic procession of protection, lineage, and continuity.
Originating in the tribal Gond community, which lives in close communion with nature, these paintings portray a strong belief that every aspect of nature is animate and sacred.
The tigress strides forward in a calm, deliberate gait, her elongated torso forming a stable horizontal axis across the composition. Her head, rendered in warm ochre with an alert almond-shaped eye and open jaw, conveys watchfulness and vitality. The cubs, smaller yet similarly stylised, echo her form and movement—one positioned beneath the mother’s body and the other following close behind—visually reinforcing the bond of dependence and guidance within the animal world.
Each figure is divided into chromatic compartments filled with dense Gond patterning—fine dots, scalloped scales, lattice grids, and parallel hatchings—so that their skins appear alive with internal texture. The tigress’s torso glows in saturated orange punctuated by blue dot constellations, while earthy browns and greens shape the hindquarters; the cubs display complementary palettes of blue, pink, and ochre, suggesting both individuality and shared identity. The repeated segmentation across mother and offspring creates a visual rhythm that links the three bodies into a unified familial entity.
This painting showcases three of Kailash Pradhan’s signature styles, the unique star-shaped pattern called “Cher Chera,” inspired by the Gond community’s Cherchera festival; the Parsa Paan pattern resembling betel leaves, offered as a symbol of respect at significant events and used in traditional medicine within the Gond tribe; and the Khaddar pattern inspired by the fibres of handspun Khadi cotton cloth.
Through the aligned movement and patterned continuity of the tigress and her cubs, the composition becomes an emblem of maternal guardianship and generational flow—expressing the Gond understanding of wildlife as kin and the forest as an interwoven family of beings.

Returns and Replacements

Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
