This beautiful Antique Tanjore depicts Lord Ayyappa, the deity of truth and righteousness. According to legends, he is the son of Lord Shiva and Mohini (a female avatar of Lord Vishnu), representing a bridge between Shaivism and Vaishnavism.
Tanjore (Thanjavur) Painting is a classical South Indian art form known for its elaborate composition, vibrant colors, iconic relief work and extensive use of gold leaf and semi-precious stones, primarily depicting Hindu deities.
In this painting, Lord Ayyappa is depicted in his iconic asana (Yogic posture), seated with his legs folded and held in place by a Yogapatta (meditation band) draped across his knees. He is shown with a youthful, radiant countenance and a calm expression. He wears a yellow and orange dhoti with a gold border while his body is adorned with elaborate necklaces and armlets, rendered in typical temple jewellery style. A garland around his neck, an ornate crown and a prominent halo signify his divine aura.
The deity sits upon an opulent golden throne decorated with green and red semi-precious stones. Encasing the figure is a majestic Prabhavali (ornamental arch) that features a Kirtimukha, a protective figure that symbolizes the swallowing of one's own pride before the divine. The pillars of the arch and the surrounding frame are heavily embossed with gold leaf, with rows of red and green stones lining the borders of the arch.
At the base of the throne sits a traditional offering plate containing bananas and coconuts. These are placed on a deep maroon-red floor, which provides a grounding contrast to the dark, mystical background of the upper composition.
The artwork is housed in a classic wooden frame with deep grooves, which drives the focus inward toward the shimmering gold leaf. The contrast between the dark wood and the luminous, metallic interior makes this antique piece a representation of both historical craftsmanship and spiritual stillness.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
Once your order is placed, our team stays in constant communication with the artist to track the progress and ensure the quality of your order. You will receive regular updates from us throughout this process.
