About the Artwork +
Introducing a beautiful Kalamkari artwork crafted by the talented master artist Mannasamudram Viswanath Reddy portraying the legendary Indian epic of Ramayana. Originating in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the traditional Indian textile art form, involving hand-painting or block-printing on fabric using natural dyes. Their name, derived from "kalam" (pen) and "kari" (work), Kalamkari paintings often depict scenes from Hindu mythology and feature intricate designs with natural dyes.
This stunning composition features different panels depicting important scenes from the Ramayana. Starting with the auspicious marriage of Lord Rama and Sita, to Lord Rama and Lakshmana meeting Lord Hanumana, where the latter is flying across the skies in search of Sita, Lord Hanuman watching Sita and Ravana from his hiding place in the Ashoka Vatika, Lord Hanuman showcasing his magical tail in Ravana's court, reporting back to Rama and Lakshmana, building the Rama Setu over the ocean, the battle of Lanka, Lakshmana getting wounded and Hanumana bringing an entire mountain where the Sanjeevani herb grows, the continuation of the battle, Rama's victory and Ravana's defeat, Sita's Agnipariksha and their victorious return to Ayodhya. The artist has depicted each figure with perfect iconography - Rama with his bow and arrow, Hanumana with his monkey face, Ravana with his ten heads and Sita with her enchanting beauty and grace.
Enclosed within two borders with floral and geometric motifs, set against a dark red backdrop, with light brown traditional Kalamkari motifs highlighted in black outline, this piece is a testament to the Kalamkari tradition of storytelling and artistic legacy. The artist creates magic with each brushstroke, bringing the evergreen epic to life on a single cloth canvas, making this artwork a unique addition to any collection.
