“Be like a peacock and dance with all of your beauty.”
~ Debashish Mridha
Symbolised as a peacock, Hirva Dev, the clan god of forests and nature is seen as the provider of all the requirements of many Warli families. The deity is covered in peacock feathers and sindoor (red powder) and is venerated every year with great festivities and celebrations. The Warli tribesmen identify themselves with Pardi, the hunter companion of Hirva and see themselves as protectors of nature.
Take this beautiful peacocks handbag home, beautifully painted by our Warli artist Sachin.
