Bio | Born on September 28, 1962, Amita Sachdeva is a National Awardee and a master craftswoman, celebrated for her exceptional versatility across numerous art forms. As the daughter of an army officer, her upbringing across India exposed her to the nation's diverse handicrafts, fostering a deep appreciation and enabling her to acquire skills from each state. Sachdeva masterfully blends the opulent Thanjavur art with the distinctive Kaavi art, creating her signature Stone Dust paintings. This innovative fusion yields contemporary artworks with a unique base of finely crushed stone dust. Amita Sachdeva's exceptional talent has earned her two of India's top handicraft honors: the National Award in 2008 for her contributions to Kaavi Art conservation and Stone Dust painting, and the Shilp Guru Award in 2017 for her extensive work teaching art to women at the grassroots level. Beyond her artistic and educational impact, Sachdeva's work generates ₹30 lakhs annually from handicraft sales. A lifelong learner, her artistic skills span stained glass, porcelain painting, resin art, Venetian mirrors, and traditional canvas painting. Her expertise has been utilized in significant projects, including Gurudwara restorations in India and Hong Kong, and creating artworks for the Chinmaya Mission in Delhi and Gurugram. Proudly, Amita has inspired her daughter, Vidushi, to continue her legacy. Together, they actively train school dropouts and needy youngsters, preserving traditional crafts and empowering the next generation. A self-trained artist, Sachdeva's studio, 'Earth-n-Heaven', is where she draws inspiration from daily life and her travels. With over 40 years of experience in her craft, she resides in Noida, Delhi NCR, and advocates for artisans to "work hard with a pure heart, practicing your craft to achieve divinity." |
